I would like to offer my reader-patrons a special gift - an audiobook excerpt of my reading from my book, Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Bureaucrat: Writing on Governing.
Recent subscribers may not be aware that for 33 years, before 2022, I led a double life as both writer and very, very minor government official. After leaving the public service in late 2022, I published my previously shared and secret writing on government in this book.
The title essay, “Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Bureaucrat”, was a breakthrough in finding my voice as a writer and in breaking my enchantment with certain spells of power. All is explained in the book. It has a special place in my journey.
So I would like to share my personal reading of the opening sections of that essay with my patrons or paid subscribers.
Listen on if you are; and, if not, then look forward to my free weekly post on Saturday morning (10.30 am AEDT), that expands on Australia-China relations, following my appearance on The Duran this week.
Thank you for being a patron of my writing.
Since I made my paywalled article available for all this week, I was keen to offer patrons a little bonus gift in appreciation of your support.
Here is an approximately 20 minute excerpt of my reading the introduction and part one of “13 Ways of Looking at a Bureaucrat”. I wrote the essay in 2016, and recorded this reading in February 2024.
A few followers on YouTube have suggested I record Audiobooks, and even that I have an ASMR voice! Let me know if you agree, and if I should do a complete audiobook recording of this essay or the entire book, or try my hand at meditation recordings!
Also, look out for my interview with Sam Roggeveen of the Lowy Institute next week. I will likely release on YouTube and podcast Friday evening.
Thanks
Jeff
