I have decided to make some changes to my substack newsletter format with the aim of making Glimpses of the Multipolar World a briefer, more digetible window onto our changing multipolar world.
I recently did a little mini-review of my content across text, video and audio, and over my several channels and writing projects. My initial intention with Glimpses was to model it on other newsletters that shared short updates, insights and curate content. The idea was to “share my work” of making sense of a rapidly changing world, and to offer an entry point into my works as an author and my perspective on world history.
Over time, as I got stuck into the writing, I found I wrote several short or even mid-range essays each week. Together with the demands of the other channels I was over-loaded and not doing the longer term writing projects that I wanted to.
So, I am going to shift to a model in which the free weekly newsletter:
provides a handful of key comments and links to curated content that I have collected during the week to help you see the world more clearly with history and many cultures.
summarises the big story of the week, that might relate to any of the major themes of change that I see in the world crisis (rival great powers, political order, scoial fragmentation, cultural ferment, economy, environment and war) and are drawn from across the world.
I will provide behind a paywall a 1000-2000 word article on that big story in the weekly newsletter. Paid subscribers will be able to read that as part of the newsletter.
I will retire the current rubrics of my newsletter (governing the multipolar world, and so on). These themes however will no doubt keep showing up.
In addition, I will provide my bonus essay for paid subscribers monthly, rather than my current promise of fortnightly. Paid subscribers will however now receive exclusive high-value content every week.
This new format will make the free weekly newsletter easier and quicker to read. It will be a better introduction to my writing and my unique perspective on the world. It will also make the benefits of becoming a paid subscriber even greater.
So, if you are a free subscriber why not consider upgrading now. I am introducing today a special birthday sale offer (I turn 60 in October). The price of new paid subscriptions is down 20% until the end of October 2023.
I will be implementing this new format from this Saturday 23 September.
I will also provide you some news on some changes with my podcasts, YouTube channel and courses shortly.
Thank you for reading and supporting my writing.
