I was excited by the ideas you expounded about a different way, not being trapped by US mores, and culture, but the connection with different cultures. The image of the Emperor's lack of close was absolutely apt. I recently gave up on British TV. It was too much of the US world view on BBC news, and too many programmes imported from US of dubious quality. The fact that there is a push back Europe wide against the signs of Americanisation: McDonald's, Marlborough, and Coke, is a good sign, but European Commision's tendency to want European states to all become homogeneous is a backward measure. Ì would to see a world of vibrant colour and acceptance and openness of all cultures with maybe nodes of power, but not one hegemony.
