Awesome read! If you’re interested, I also wrote about Chinese military command and control during the Korean War: https://open.substack.com/pub/ordersandobservations/p/command-in-the-dark-chinese-c2-in?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

- Chiang Kai-Shek received military help from a number of countries including the US. But Chiang didn't want to fight Japan himself but wanted to let the US fight Japan instead. Chiang considered Mao Zedong a larger enemy than Japan.

No wonder they said that's never happening again. Amazing how they grew out of this near extinction to what they are today without the savagery of their predators.

- If you want to read how the relationship was between China, Japan on the one hand and the US on the other hand between the years say 1850 and say 1950 then read James Bradley''s "The China Mirage".

- Mao Zedong could have been a US ally and become capitalistic. But the US only supported Chiang Kai-shek and as a result Mao Zedong sought and received support from the Soviet Union and became a communist. instead. The US was masterfully played by China's Chiang Kai-Shek and was led to believe that Chiang was china's future and NOT Mao. Very interesting book.

- A similar story can be seen playing out with the relationship between US and Israel right now.
