Will the song of Trump’s tariffs be: Trump fought the world, and the world won?
Meanwhile, in Korea important political changes have occurred, by the book.
South Korean President Yoon has been removed from office for insurrection following a decision of the constitutional court. Late last year he attempted a military coup, which many analysts believe had tacit USA support.
By June 2025 South Korea may have a progressive Democratic Party President (Lee Jae-myung) and legislature that could pursue domestic and foreign policies, not favoured by its domineering ally, the USA. Especially since Trump imposed 25 per cent tariffs on Korean trade with America!
How will Korea change? How will relations with Japan, USA, China and the Asia-Pacific change? How will we adapt to this changing world?
I discussed these questions in my latest interview on YouTube with KJ Noh. KJ Noh is a journalist, political analyst, writer, and teacher specializing in the geopolitics of the Asia-Pacific region check the China Report at @BreakThroughNews ) He joined me for this special interview to discuss the events of President Yoon's removal from office and how events will unfold in Korea and internationally.
It is also worth watching my interview with KJ from late last year soon after the failed military coup. We discuss Korea’s tragic post-1945, post-partition history, and how they reverberate in the 2024 coup.
The traumas of Korean society are investigated in the writing of 2024 Nobel Prize for Literature winner, Han Kang. My appreciation of her work is available for paid subscribers at the Nobel Archive.
