My daughter lives in Korea so been watching this avidly. And reading my way through Han Kung -- not for the faint hearted!

Interesting how do you see the situation? Which of Han Kung’s books would you recommend? I will be chatting with KJ Noh about Han Kung & historical trauma in Korea in 2 weeks.

It seems to still feel very precarious and I think there is also a lot of fear -- the brutality that Kung writes about really isn't that long ago in the scale of things. I've read Human Acts and We Do Not Part so far. I found the violence/torture very hard to read, but it's never gratuitous. I love the way she blends a sense of otherness in such horrific material. We Do Not Part had the edge for me as a novel -- the physical context of snow and isolation is so powerful.

I've got The Vegetarian and Greek Lessons to read next, but am taking a break between them :)

USA (Media included) coup-creativity, something for ‘Western’ countries/citizens to consider. Maybe even something worth deliberation. Hindsight may not be 20-20, but may shed light on US-parroting subservient profit-seekers.
